Stefano Meschiari

Senior Data Scientist, Duo Security

Stefano Meschiari is a Senior Data Scientist at Duo Security (Labs). At Duo, he is a technical leader for the development of the User and Entity Behavior Analytics (UEBA) platform. UEBA leverages Spark at scale to analyze data, build models, and surface potential threats and authentication anomalies to our customers. He is involved in building novel production ETL and machine learning components, researching new algorithms and approaches to attacking hard problems, and creating functional tooling for data teams using Scala, R, and Python. He is also not above obsessing over fonts, colors, and layouts of interactive prototypes for data science ideas.

Before taking the plunge into Data Science, he was a McDonald Postdoctoral Fellow at UT Austin, where he discovered new extrasolar planets and worked on understanding how Tatooine-like planets (planets orbiting binary stars) formed. He is also a maker of open-source scientific tools and games — one of his games, Super Planet Crash, has been played more than 12,000,000 times, and was featured in articles on The Verge, Huffington Post, io9, and VICE. You can check out his open-source projects at http://www.stefanom.io.
